Stelios Couris is Professor of Laser Physics & Applications in the Department of Physics of the University of Patras. He is also collaborating faculty member with the ICE/HT-FORTH and the Hellenic Open University. He received his PhD from Toulouse University (1984). After having worked as a Post Doctoral Associate under an EU grant (SCIENCE) in the Centre of Atomic Physics of Toulouse in France, and as NATO Post Doctoral Fellow at SYLVANIA-GTE at Boston, U.S.A, he joined the Physics Department of the University of Crete and the Institute of Electronic Structure and Lasers (IESL-FORTH). In 2000, he moved at the Department of Physics of the University of Patras and become affiliated with ICE/HT-FORTH. His main research interests include Nonlinear Optics, Nonlinear Optical Materials, Laser Spectroscopy, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Plasma Diagnostics, Combustion Diagnostics and Laser based analytical applications. He is author or co-author of more than 110 scientific papers published in peer review scientific journals and has participated in more than 90 International Conferences. He has recently co-chaired the Topical Meeting of the International Commission for Optics held at Delphi in Greece, 7-9 October 2009, on Emerging Trends and Novel Materials in Photonics. He is also Co-Editor or Guest-Editor of: i) a Feature Issue on Nanophotonics of “Opto-Electronics Review”of Springer, Vol. 18(4), 2010, ii) AIP Conference Proceedings, Vol. 1288, ISBN: 978-0-7354-0843-2, and iii) of a Special Issue of “Photonics and Nanostructures: Fundamentals and Applications” of Elsevier, Vol. 9 (2011).

He has been the principal investigator of more than 25 EU and National research projects.
